Well, I'm sure some of you out there are wondering what ASMS is. It is the Arkansas School for Mathematics and Sciences. Basically like early college for 11th and 12th grade. You apply in January of your sophomore year, if you are accepted as a semifinalist, you go in april for interviews, and then you are accepted or declined. It is for kids who do well in school, especially math and science. You move into a 100-year old hospital-turned-dormitory and go to class on a college-based schedule and at an advanced level. some of you from Arkansas may have read in local news that the governor is granting money to develop a fine arts school here. This is true. However, the two schools will most likely be separate: the Arkansas school for Math and Science, and the Arkansas school for Fine arts. There are good reasons for this and research is being conducted based on systems set up by other magnet schools like ASMS around the country. So far, the state has given us $50,000 to finish the seventh floor and the second and third levels above the student union. However, we recently had a small fire that may constrict our budget. I will keep you updated on the situation, maybe.
